Qualified Preceptors Make a Difference
For each new nurse, a typical healthcare organization spends $50,000 or more on orientation. Yet in 2006, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing reported that, among nurses in practice about 1 year, 33% of RNs and 40% of LPN/LVNs had changed nursing positions or were planning to do so within a year. When you do the math, such a high turnover rate can severely strain any hospital’s budget.

Online Preceptor Course Premiers at NNSDO Convention (NNSDO Trendlines, July/Aug '09)
Mosby’s Preceptor Course, a collaborative effort of the National Nursing Staff Development Organization (NNSDO) and Elsevier/Elsevier / MC Strategies, will premier at the NNSDO 2009 Conference.

The course is a blended learning experience with fifteen on­line lessons that lay the foundation for effectively performing the role of preceptor. Each lesson is complemented with at least one offline preceptor activity that is completed inde­pendently and is the basis for sharing and discussion with the educator or in a facilitated group
